Lesson 11 of 12 · 6 min

The places that get quoted

Which other sites decide whether you get named.

0 of 12 done

Some websites get quoted about your area constantly. Others never do.

Effort aimed at the first group is worth many times more than effort spread evenly.

Find your list

Take the questions from lesson three, the ones a guest asks before booking. Ask them in ChatGPT, in Perplexity, and in Google.

Write down every source that gets cited. Do it for ten or fifteen questions.

Patterns show up fast. The same four or five sites keep appearing. Often it is the regional tourism board, one local publication, and a review site. Sometimes it is a forum you have never heard of.

That list is your target. It is different for every town and every kind of business, which is why generic advice about directories is usually a waste of money.

Then make sure you are on them, correctly

Your business details, matching the record you wrote in module two, on every site that matters. Apple Maps and Bing Places both let you claim a listing free, and both are usually wrong and never checked.

Do not buy a package that submits you to hundreds of directories. It creates records you do not control on sites nobody reads, and cleaning them up later is worse than the original problem.

Make your booking platforms agree with you

Your listings on the big booking sites are read constantly and they carry weight.

Open each one next to your own site and compare, line by line. Room names, capacity, amenities, cancellation terms, check-in times.

Where they disagree, a system has to pick, and it has more reason to trust theirs. Where they disagree on policy, you get an argument at the front desk.

This is the tedious one

Twenty to forty sites, each with its own login and verification email. No skill, no judgment, just hours.

Almost nobody finishes it alone. If you are going to pay for one thing in this course, it is reasonable for it to be this.

Next: the last lesson, and the only number that matters.

Your turn

List the sites in your market that get quoted, and whether you are on them

The bureau, the guides, the local press. Mark each one yes or no.
