Write down your business details once. Then make every place you appear match it.
That is the whole lesson. It is dull and it works.
Write the record
Open a document. Put in:
- Your legal business name
- The name on your sign, if it differs
- Your street address, in one format
- One phone number
- Your hours, including how they change by season
- The words you use to describe what you are
One value per line. No alternatives.
Then find everywhere you appear
Search three things and write down every result that is a listing or a profile:
- Your business name, in quotes
- Your phone number, in quotes
- Your street address, in quotes
You will find more than you expect. A tourism board page from four years ago. A directory you never signed up for. A Facebook page a previous manager made.
Fix them one at a time
Open each one next to your record and make them match. Character for character. Suite 4 is not the same as #4 to software.
Keep the list. In six months you will re-check it, and rebuilding the list from scratch is most of the work.
What will slow you down
Logins. Somewhere in that list is an account made by someone who left, on an email nobody controls.
Start those password resets today and work on the rest while they sit in a queue. This is the single most common reason people stop halfway.
Why it is worth a boring afternoon
Every one of those sources is a vote. When they agree, you are one confident business. When they disagree, you might be two, and both get trusted less.
